Tech Hub

Project Overview

Vision
Build the Gangwon Yeongdong Technology Startup METTA Universe in response to the development of Gangwon strategic and specialized industries
Goal
Produce at least one "baby unicorn" company
Detailed Strategies
  • Identify and incubate technology startup items
  • Support startup labs and commercialization
  • Build a technology startup hub and expand market channels

Main Research and Project Activities

We will realize a "successful technology startup model for the Yeongdong region" through focus and selection by first identifying new technology development outcomes as technology startup items. These outcomes will come from ANCHOR strategic industry development projects that combine the advanced strategic industry strengths of Catholic Kwandong University and Gangneung-Wonju National University in biohealth, food tech, semiconductors, future energy, and ICT with each university's region-specific industry strengths in smart port logistics, offshore wind power, deep ocean water, K-salmon, and non-ferrous metals.
To this end, we will pursue the following systematic strategic tasks under the vision of "Building the Gangwon Yeongdong Technology Startup METTA Universe" and the goal of "producing at least one baby unicorn company."

Operate Startup Club "Tech Lab"
Select startup clubs and support their activities at the beginning of each academic year
Support Guest Lecturers for Regular Technology Startup Courses
Before each semester, survey demand for regular technology startup courses linked to advanced strategic and region-specific industries, then support special lectures and lecturer fees through application and review
Support Startup Lab Commercialization
Form startup labs at consortium universities through annual calls and business plan evaluations, then provide commercialization funding by project to achieve incorporation
Technology, Market, and Business Feasibility Verification Simulator
Conduct technology verification, market verification, and business feasibility verification through specialized institutions to identify business model improvements, performance upgrades, and IP advancement needs for each startup lab immediately after selection
Customized Expert Mentoring for Startup Labs
Match experts in needed fields through consultation with startup consultants at the host university, record problem-solving processes and outcomes, and support feedback cycles
Market Development "Go Market"
Use domestic and overseas sales networks of the host and participating universities to support company sales growth through distributor entry for prototypes and finished products and global testing market matching
Practical Investment Round
Operate a capability-building program for startup labs with investors and investment experts, progressing from education to IR consulting and practical IR to improve investment attraction potential
Build Technology Startup Hub Infrastructure
Gradually improve Joseph Hall at the host university into an open-space facility for startup-related organizations and companies, opening it to members of both the host and participating universities as a technology startup hub for the Yeongdong region
Gangwon Yeongdong Technology Startup FESTA
Hold a Yeongdong regional startup festival with exhibitions, special lectures, best-practice presentations and awards, seminars, and networking to share and disseminate annual outcomes
Technology Startup Hub Biz Forum
Hold regular networking and mentoring events at least once every half year with the public, prospective and current entrepreneurs, universities, and startup-related institutions and organizations

Expected Outcomes

  • Create a sustainably growing campus startup environment by activating region-leading technology startups
  • Continuously improve the qualitative and quantitative outcomes of technology startup hub development through cooperation among consortium universities, local governments, and companies
  • Build a mutually beneficial development system between universities and the region by revitalizing regional industries
